Ash Wednesday Mass Times
Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
26 February 2020
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days before Easter.
Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head.
The ashes symbolise the dust from which God made us. As the priest applies the ashes , they speak the words "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" or "Repent and believe in the Gospel."
The ashes used are gathered after the palms from the last year's Palm Sunday are burned.
